REAPER is a powerful but sensible Windows application that lets you record, arrange, edit, and render multi-track waveform audio. It provides an extensive set of features, but is a very small and lightweight application (the installer is less than 1 megabyte, and includes many effects and a sample project).
REAPER supports ASIO, Kernel Streaming, WaveOut, and DirectSound for playback and recording. It reads WAV, OGG, and MP3 files, and records WAV files. An advanced tool for everyday and emergency use: inspect and edit all kinds of files, recover deleted files or lost data from hard drives with corrupt file systems or from digital camera cards.

· Drive cloning, drive imaging
to produce exact duplicates of disks/drives, e.g. to save the time for a full installation of the operating system and other software for several computers/disks of the same type, or to be able to restore a running installation in case of data loss/screwed up Windows (restoration of a backup). Bug Fixes
- Fixed boot time defrag issue on very large drives.
- Occasionally boot time defragmentation passes cannot move a file. Changes were made to minimize this condition.
- A change was made to the boot time defragmentation code to work around changes in Vista SP1. Previously user may have received a driver conflict message and the boot-time defragmentation pass was skipped.
- When querying files with more than 1000 names, PD91Engine may some times crash. This has been fixed.
- During a boot time defragmentation pass on Vista the computer sometimes failed to reboot after the defragmentation pass completed. This has been fixed.
- Fixed defragmentation schedules that would run "in series" while scheduled "in parallel".
- Added to the Excluded Files tab all files excluded from defragmentation by default.
- Formatted the display of file and drive sizes as xxx.xx.

Speed Up My PC is designed to help your speed up your Windows installation and your computer to help them run more efficiently. As long as we have had PCs, there have been solutions that attempt to squeeze a bit more performance out of your existing system. One way to overcome this problem is through newer pieces of hardware. A faster CPU, more RAM and a beefier video card can work wonders. An alternative is to install software that attempts to speed up or stabilize Windows, memory or hard drive usage. I'll forgo a full historical review of these applications and instead sum up the basic problem and solution.
Windows and its predecessor, DOS, have been plagued with less than optimal abilities to handle memory and multitasking applications. These problems result in slow operation and system crashes. Software solutions aim to optimize the use of memory and hardware to address some of Windows’ inherent flaws. Another way to look at it is from a people perspective. Although you could upgrade a person’s hardware (give them a new brain), it is quite costly (and impossible with today’s technology). It's simply more efficient to teach them better ways of remembering or processing information. Although computer hardware upgrades are more viable, they can still be costly. |
